Glendalough

Ireland East,

Glendalough (The glen of two lakes) is a beautiful valley, about an hours drive south of Dublin in the Wicklow Mountains. The bouldering is centred on the old mining village above the upper lake on beautiful coarse granite, and the problems tend to be technical, slopey and not too steep. There is a range of over a hundred and fifty problems from easy scrambling to desperate 8b’s, with quality spread throughout. Some of the problems in the scree have bad landings, though a pad and a spotter can tame all but the very worst. A climber visiting Glendo for a day can easily occupy themselves with the classic problems that lie on the edge of the scree. Problems like Original Route, The Rails, B.B.E., Andy’s Arete, anything on Big Jim, Rhythm and Stealth, 2.4 Pascals, The Überhang, Chillax, The Fin, AROTF, Wonderland and King Cobra are all of the highest quality.
