Limski kanal

Istria, HR

Limski kanal is a natural and touristic attraction and a very popular climbing spot as well. Sectors are variable, with grades ranging from 4c to 8c. Routes are mostly vertical, interrupted by cracks and roofs, where a bit more experienced climbers will enjoy the most. Many routes here are no joke! The most approachable for beginners are Šimije and the right part of Gavranik. This place is worth visiting for the spectacular scenery and liquor shops alone. The bay of Lim (locally known as canal) is a bay on the western side of Istria between Vrsar and Rovinj and is a part of Limska Draga. It was formed as a ria (flooded river mouth) of river Pazinčica, which now goes underground in Pazin cave at Pazin, but in the past it used to flow into the sea at Lim Bay. The bay is an important seashell farm and a popular tourist spot. Today it is a natural border between towns Rovinj on the south and municipality Vrsar and Sveti Lovreč on the north, but already in Roman times it used to separate two former provinces, today towns of Poreč and Pula.
