Monte Cucco

Liguria, IT

Monte Cucco is the most significant climbing site of the Finale Ligure area where the first attempt to climb in these parts took place in the 60s. During the 70s the most logical cracks were climbed and during the 80s some of the most famous routes were created (__Aspettando il Sole__, for instance) and the popularity of the climbing site grew together with the creation of the most extreme climbing routes (also in the 80s). Nevertheless Monte Cucco is still capable of offering new routes and even see the creation of completely new sections. Monte Cucco is a must when climbing in Finale Ligure and trying the traditional routes from all decades is essential for a better understanding of climbing history in the area, from ethics to bolting and rebolting criteria to the infamous French difficulty grading scale that has been used here for the first time in Italy, taken from climbing sites like La Loubiére and Saint Victoire and that local climbers respected and followed during the years.
