Schartenflue / Gempen (extrem)

The expansive Schartenflue beneath the well known view point is certainly one of the greatest and most popular climbing areas of the Basel Jura. For good reason, your choice of routes here in the middle grades is huge and the rock quality is excellent. Everything good always seems to have a down side, and here that its own popularity is its own demise. The high traffic has worn some of these routes down. Sunny winter climbing days are to be had in the “Sanduhrliwand” (Hourglass Wall) Sector. And as the sun sets burning red on the horizon, it’s time for romance.
