Galatiani

Kalymnos, GR

Galatianí is a mighty rock face high above the road. A beautiful cave, the so-called Calcite Cave, sits to the side. Galatianí is somewhat under-appreciated, most likely because of the long uphill walk required to get there; but it is a phenomenal crag with high-quality, feature-packed rock, and more potential for great routes. Two smaller sub-sectors, Reservoir Dogs and Black Forest, are located on the left and lower right, respectively. A big face, a cave packed with stalactites and tufas, quality rock, and great routes. Two small easier sub-sectors with sharp slabs. __Busy__ 1/3 __Climbing__ On top-quality tufas and stalactites at the main sector. On slabs and walls with somewhat sharp rock at the two sub-sectors. __Conditions__ Warm and protected from the north wind and the rain. Good for winter climbing. __Shade (Exposure: S)__ At Galatianí Main, until 11:00 (left) or until 13:00 (Calcite Cave). At the sub-sectors, until about 10:00. __Kids__ No. Long and steep walk, limited space, and risk of breaking stalactites.
