Hirschwände

Niederösterreich, AT

From Pernitz you can already see the towers of the climbing area Hirschwände, the Hausstein on the other side and in bet- ween the small canyon of the Myrafälle. In 1998, two brothers, Gerald and Michael Poharez, discovered the boulders, which are situated in the for the region typical deciduous forest, and they started to develop the whole area of Hirschwände and Hausstein. In the two caves on the Hirschwand side one usually climbs on coarse rock. The boulders consist of smooth limestone with ledges, pockets and slopers. If the weather is nice the upper cave is even warm enough to climb in winter. Also, the area is almost always above the usual fog.
