Feigenbaum

Harz, DE

High above the valley floor with nice views and the Kästehaus with excellent cake, the Feigenbaum area is a popular hiking destination. Also the rocks up there attract hikers. The well known Mausefalle ("mouse trap") is an almost impossible stack of rocks, with a huge boulder balancing on a fragile little flake. Due to this the Mausefalle can even be found in some textbooks on geology. The almost organic charm of the blocks has consequences on the climbing style, which is dominated by slopers, with just the occasional crimper on crystals. This climbing style attracted climbers ever since the development started. Sloper problems like Souljacker, Ohne Mut keine Mädchen or Ich Tarzan, du Jane would certainly qualify for popular boulder problems in Fontainebleau. But another special problem can be found up there: the ultra-brutal crack Entdeckung der Grausamkeit. Hard (at least for us sissies not used to hard jamming), overhanging and high, it is problem to be worked on. In the last years large parts of the sector were also cleared from forest, so that the majority of the blocks dry quickly. But this also means that the shrubs are gaining momentum, so please help to keep them down, i.e. bring rose clippers!
