Kasteli

Kalymnos, GR

Sector Kasteli is on the west side of the obvious small peninsula with the cone-shaped hill, above the sea as you leave Masouri going north. The crag is an extensive area of steep, rough, compact grey limestone slabs at a serene spot near the water. Compact, sometimes sharp grey slabs near the water, with many lower-grade routes and a few more challenging vertical climbs. __Busy__ 2/3 __Climbing__ On sometimes sharp but compact grey slabs, with easier routes for beginners as well as more demanding vertical climbs. North Wall is ideal for afternoon climbing; Main Wall features steep slabby routes around 6a; Easy Slab is off-vertical with lower grades (some routes are sparsely bolted for the grade, though). Lastly, Back Cave is a small cave with three overhanging bouldery routes on good holds. __Conditions__ Cool, thanks to many hours of shade, multiple cliff orientations, and proximity to the water. Good for summer. Not good for climbing on very windy days, as it is quite exposed to the weather. __Shade (Exposure: N, W, SW, SE)__ North Wall (N): after 15:00 Main Wall (W), Easy Slab (SW): until 13:00 Back Cave (SE): after 16:00 __Kids__ OK. An easy path and some suitable areas. At __Back Cave__ the quickdraws are fixed in place, but some carabiners no longer open, so you will have to bring your own.
