Pfynpfeiler (plaisir)

Wallis, CH

The classic Pfynpfeiler was first climbed in 1968 and has been repeated many times since. This is patently evident on the rock surface: Some hand and foot holds are quite polished. Nevertheless, especially in summer, the place is worth a visit. When it is too hot in the valley to climb, you can enjoy the shade up here after 12.30pm. Not infrequently, a strong wind helps to cool you off as well. The route was extended in 2014. After pitch 5, the holds aren’t so greasy anymore, but may still be somewhat loose, so climb with care. This climb can feel exposed and serves up a diversity of styles. Get an early start and make sure you have enough time.
