Aresos

Peloponnese, GR

__Aresos__ is a small crag above the west side of Leonidio, with a wide ledge at the base of the cliff and possibly the best west-to-east view of the valley. All climbs are very well-protected. Space is limited and it can be very busy on warm days, so check the number of cars or people at the crag before you start walking. __Climbing__ One of the best crags for easy slab climbing (5a–6b). Excellent rock quality with good but sharp edges and pockets. Good for beginners and schools. On the left, some harder overhanging routes were added in 2017 (7a–7c+) with potential for more. All routes were equipped by Claude Remy in 2015/17, with additional assistance by Yiannis and Iakovos Metaxotos. __Gear__ A single 60m rope + 16 QDs for the extensions (or a single 80m rope + 20QDs for the route KOSTERLITZ). __Conditions__ Perfect for hot afternoons or sunny winter mornings. __Shade (Exposure: SE)__ After 14:00. __Kids__ Good, despite the long walk-in.
