Spartacus

Kalymnos, GR

Spartacus is one of the most celebrated crags on Kalymnos thanks to its outstanding (and challenging) long routes, most of which carry the signature of Michel Piola. Expect Spartacus to be relatively crowded during peak season: because of its enclosed shape and limited number of routes, it can feel confined when busy. Impressive tufa-streaked walls in an elongated enclosed cave, and smooth outer slabs. Getting polished by Kalymnos standards. __Busy__ 3/3 __Climbing__ On steep orange tufa-streaked walls with smooth slabs on either side. Excellent, pumpy, sustained climbing and distinct cruxes. Some routes are polished. __Conditions__ Lots of shade and protected from the south wind. Good for winter, but also for summer climbing on breezy days. Not good on hot, humid days without wind: it can get hot and greasy, especially on dark brown rock. __Shade (Exposure: N)__ Until 15:00 (until 18:00 on the right side). __Kids__ The walk is long, but there are some OK areas for kids near the cliffs.
