Cratcliffe Area

Peak District, GB

We’ve used ‘Cratcliffe Area’ here as a bit of a catch-all, as we’re referring to the huge quantity of high quality bouldering in the Birchover area, south of Bakewell. First up there’s the perfectly formed boulders – just the right height – dotted around at Cratcliffe and Robin Hood’s Stride. These have developed a fond following among Peak District boulderers. The two outcrops – effectively one large area – are also home to a stack of Peak classics across the grade spectrum, with many ‘destination’ ticks, including Jerry’s Arête, Big Al Qaeda, Razor Roof and Stepped Arête. They also offer some of the best bouldering in the Peak below 7a.
