Falkenflue (extrem)

Jura - Switzerland,

The mother of all cliffs has more than 200 routes gracing its flanks making it not only the biggest, but also the most popular climbing area in the Basel Jura. The rich climbing traditions of this area present a huge number of route choices (6c and up) for climbers in the upper grades. The “Falke” (Hawks Cliff) is predominantly technical finger pulling face climbing on pockets and crimps often times accompanied by smeary feet. Moderate grades and fantastic pocketed rock is characteristic for Sectors “Twelve”and “Holzer”. As often is the case with well traveled routes, the popular routes can be greasy. The best routes are as long as 30 meters on the “Langen Wand” (Long Wall). “La Belle Vie” is still one of the greatest routes for the grade in the Jura. In the summer even on hot days, the cliff stays in the shade until 1430 (2:30pm). Once the “Falke” gets wet in the Fall, however, it tends to stay that way for a long time.
