Dalkey Quarry

Ireland East,

Dalkey Quarry is one the most popular climbing areas in Ireland and while it doesn’t represent the very best of Irish climbing, as urban quarries go it’s pretty good. It’s very convenient for Dublin-based climbers on summer evenings and for visitors who are entering or leaving the country via Dublin. The vast majority of routes in the Quarry are single-pitch. The easier climbs tend to feature distinct cruxes between easier ground while the harder routes are usually steeper and more sustained. The rock quality is variable, ranging from immaculate white granite to rotten orange choss, but for the most part it’s good. The boreholes left by the quarrymen take a bomber size #3 tricam.
