Rocca dell'Aia

La Rocca dell’Aia is without doubt the structure of excellence of the area. It is well visible even from the coast and presents itself like a slender tower of solid quartzite immersed in the woods at the foot of the Monte Carmo. The quality of the rock and the beauty of the place have caused a great deal of excitement over the years proven by the names of well-known Ligurian alpinists who used to visit this place. In its current state the Rocca is a beautiful cliff where easy multi pitch routes on optimal rock can be climbed. Unfortunately the quality of the rock is not always that good on the more accessible routes. This historical crag was brought back to life over the last couple of years thanks to the work carried out by Renato Gamba. He also added a couple of entertaining single pitch routes and thus created a worthwhile but more so a different alternative to the nearby cliffs of the “Finalese”. The routes are on various faces and the best orientation to suit the season can be chosen.
