Olympic Wall & Ocean Dream

Kalymnos, GR

Olympic Wall and its sub-sector Ocean Dream are two of the most appropriately named crags on Kalymnos. Soaring high above Odyssey, Olympic Wall is a cliff of epic proportions with slightly overhanging rock and some monster pitches. To its north, Ocean Dream holds its own when it comes to rock quality, but boasts even dreamier sea views. The limestone quality at both sectors is outstanding, yet neither sector is ever busy because of the longer walk-in. The main crag is a huge, slightly overhanging wall full of pockets, tufa pipes, and stalactites. Sub-sector Ocean Dream is a tall cliff in a mountainous landscape with slabby climbing and a few demanding long multi-pitches. Sub-sector Space Terrace features some super-long tufa snakes. __Busy__ 2/3 __Climbing__ At Olympic Wall, pockets, giant tufa pipes, tufa blobs, and stalactites. At Ocean Dream, some of the longest, most adventurous multi-pitches on Kalymnos as well as delicate climbing on smooth, steep rock, and a few superb hard single pitches at Space Terrace cave. __Shade (Exposure: S)__ Ocean Dream (Left, Multi-pitches, Slab) Until 11:00 _Space Terrace_ Until 13:00 _Nemo_ Until 12:00 _Olympic Wall Main (left)_ Until 12:30 __Conditions__ Warm and exposed to sun and rainfall. Best for cooler conditions and early morning climbing. __Kids__ Only at Olympic Wall, and remember: the walk is long. At __Ocean Dream__ you will find some of the boldest, most demanding multi-pitches of Kalymnos, superb hard routes in a cave at Space Terrace, some compact slabby climbs from 5b all the way to 7b at Slab and Nemo, and nearly a dozen new routes to the left of the multi-pitches promisingly described by their equipper as, among other things, “adventurous,” “a bit exotic overall,” “a cool place for loners,” and “only for Brits!” Some scrambling is required and there is a fixed rope at the end. Take care not to dislodge any loose rock, as there may be climbers below. Because of the adventurous nature of the crag and the newness of some routes, helmets are strongly recommended. Ocean Dream is not suitable for kids. __Space Terrace__ is a hard sub-sector with excellent rock in a small cave on the left and a compact wall with long tufa snakes on the right. There are some out-of-this-world lines bolted by Hannes Webhofer, who also cleaned and rebolted two older projects here in 2018. __Nemo__ is a technical and slabby grey wall with a handful of interesting long routes. But because many climbers are turned off by some sparse bolting and the long walk-in, the cliff has gone back to being vegetated, with plants and weeds growing out of pockets and holes in the rock. __Olympic Wall__ is the limestone giant that dominates in the distance over sector Odyssey; you can’t miss it. Rock quality is excellent and the sea views terrific. This fine wall is hardly ever busy, probably because of the longer approach—so go ahead and enjoy the quiet. Routes are on slightly overhanging rock full of pockets, giant tufa pipes, tufa blobs, and stalactites. Stamina and technique can be very useful for some of the monster pitches.
