Bergholtz (plaisir)

Jura - Switzerland,

This is another highly touted climbing area in the Alsace wine region. This former red sandstone rock quarry is now home to some unique and routes with distinct cruxes. First timers here tend to feel sandbagged by the local ratings. Unfortunately, the local hunters complain too about the climbers scaring away all the animals. Please keep it quiet, do not litter, and keep your dog on a leash. Apart from the fantastic location, what really makes this spot outstanding is that it is great for families. Everwhere there are small boulders where the children can play and climb. A visit to the historic city of Guebwiller (population 12 000) with it’s nice outdoor cafes and a swimming pool with a 100 meter long waterslide is highly recommended. From here and along route D 430 you can reach the rocks of Martinswand. Why not spend a climbing holiday in the Alsace!
